Orthomolecular Medicine

NatureMed Clinic Denver/Boulder

Orthomolecular medicine is the practice of preventing and treating disease by providing the body with optimal amounts of substances which are natural to the body.

The term "orthomolecular" was first used by Linus Pauling in a paper he wrote in the journal Science in 1968. The key idea in orthomolecular medicine is that genetic factors affect not only the physical characteristics of individuals, but also their biochemical milieu.

Orthomolecular is a term that comes from ortho, which is Greek for "correct" or "right," and "molecule," which is the simplest structure that displays the characteristics of a compound. So it literally means the "right molecule."

Biochemical pathways of the body have significant genetic variability and diseases such as atherosclerosis, cancer, schizophrenia or depression are associated with specific biochemical abnormalities which are causal or contributing factors of the illness.

Naturopathic medicine, by definition, incorporates all the tenants of orthomolecular medicine. One way high-dose nutrients can be delivered is through intravenous means.

Dr. Parcell was a great inspiration to me. He listened to what my problems were and he did everything in his power to ensure I got the treatment I needed while being with me every step of the way. I can't believe I didn?t know about him sooner.
