Kelly Parcell, ND

I have always been interested in health and as a child I wanted to be a teacher. One of my favorite naturopathic principles is 'Docere' (doctor as teacher) which I practice every day with patients.

I grew up in an athletic family where my mother had been the youngest star of the Canadian national ski team, and my father along with his own racing career was the Canadian ski team coach. Of course, I grew up in ski racing, which earned me a scholarship to college. After earning a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology (Exercise Physiology) from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1990, I spent 6 years chasing finish lines as a Cat II road bike racer. I finally realized I would not be a professional athlete for the rest of my life and needed to move on.

I was raised on brown bread and carrot sticks, which I was always so frustrated about. I wanted junk food! In hindsight, it shaped me, and it all made sense when I discovered naturopathic medical school. I completed my doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle in 2000.

Denise Clark, ND

I’m Denise Clark, and I’m glad you found me. I am a Naturopathic Doctor. That is, my approach to your health blends centuries-old, natural, non-toxic therapies, with current advances in the study of human health and wellness. I work with individuals for all aspects of family health from pediatric to prenatal to geriatric care.

My philosophy about health is that the body is intelligent and inherently able to heal itself, provided it has the right tools and barriers are removed. My primary work with patients is to uncover the underlying causes of their illnesses with a comprehensive medical and life history and testing. I then design a strategy combining nutritional counseling, nutrient therapy, botanical medicine and homeopathy to get you back into a state of health and well being. I came to this work based on my own experiences, and understand the fear, frustration, and discouragement that chronic illness can cause. I offer my skills as a good listener, detective, strategist, and as a partner to help you on the road to health.

I hope you find what you’re looking for on this site. If you have further questions, or want to speak with me for a free, 15-minute phone consultation, please don’t hesitate to call at 303-884-7557.  Learn more by going to  www.naturemedclinic.com.

Lyme Disease: "Thank you, Dr. Clark, for helping me feel like a normal human being again. Although i still have a little tiny bit to go to optimum health, i have to say how much better i am doing than i was 8 months ago. I was fatigued, cloudy and my life and work were suffering with these symptoms. I was kind of scared. After 2 months of diligence, I noticed a great improvement in my cognitive skills and my energy came back slowly. Just finishing a 6 week trip to Patagonia where i continued my supplements on a smaller scale, I was able to fully enjoy this physically active trip and have fantastic memories of all the trekking I was able to do. I also learned that we live in a pressure cooker, performance oriented society where the bottom dollar wins, and at what cost? Learning to be compassionate with myself has been the finest lesson in this past year. "

Testimonial - A.J., Broomfield - Dr. Clark "works to find the right answers"

"Dr. Denise Clark has worked with me for the last two years. She works very hard to get the right answers to health problems. She keeps trying until she finds what works. She returns calls in a timely manner and has good follow-through. My blood pressure has improved as well as my cholesterol levels, digestion, and I have less muscle pain. She does testing as needed and lets me know the results as soon as they come in. She is a very caring person and I have enjoyed working with her very much."

Testimonial:

"I have been living with Lyme Disease since I contracted it in 1987. Given the lack of information at that time, Lyme was rarely diagnosed correctly or treated properly. So I lived untreated until 2004.

My symptoms first exhibited in 1989 in the form of 6 months of flu-like symptoms, including very high fever. In 1996 they appeared as a severe case of IBS; and then I had no further symptoms until 2004. In the span of a week in April 2004 my body crashed. I went from a stronger and healthier than average, 42-year old man to a man who felt like a frail, ill, 70-year old. I experienced tendonitis throughout my arms and legs, muscle weakness and soreness throughout my body, IBS, insomnia, and immune system deficiency; and the associated stress, fear and depression. As a scientist, I needed to understand what was happening to me; and the lack of answers was furthering my stress and depression.

I was misdiagnosed and mistreated repeatedly between 2004 and 2006, often resulting in a higher level of pain than before the treatment. Then in 2006, I finally listened to my instinct, and stopped letting fear guide my treatment decisions. I returned to the homeopathic and naturopathic ways and means in which I had primarily lived my teenage and adult life. My friend and massage therapist introduced me to a wonderful Doctor of Oriental Medicine who practiced and taught acupuncture, acupressure and herbal treatment; and had a thorough understanding of western diagnostic data. This integrated approach provided a great deal of relief for my IBS, immune system and fibromyalgia symptoms; and I became much more functional. However I was not “better”, and I had no guidance toward resolution.

I started working with Dr. Clark in 2009, and immediately realized her dedication and expertise. Denise utilizes a research-based approach coupled with sound professional judgment and a true compassion for people. She tackles diagnosis and treatment in a logical manner that is collaboratively decided with the patient. Her approach is supported and complemented by excellent communication, accessibility, and follow-up. Dr. Clark truly understands the mechanisms and effects of Lyme disease and has helped me to alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia, food allergies, IBS, immune and nervous system disorders. She continues to expand her understanding of the disease. Her dedication and research linked me to a new treatment protocol that is effectively alleviating the symptoms and killing the microbes that are the root cause of Lymes Disease. I am not completely better yet, but Denise has laid out a plan to get me there. The hope instilled in me by noticeable results, knowledge and compassion is immeasurable. I have confidence that Dr. Clark will lead me to resolution of this disease."

Testimonial - P.L., Sidney, NE - "on the path to better health"

"I was getting concerned about how overwhelmed, yet unmotivated I felt. My body was out of balance from all the crazy diets and traditional medical advice. Dr. Clark gave me simple suggestions for lifestyle changes and supplements. In a few short months, I feel I am on the path to better health."

Testimonial:

“I have a story I want to share with you about Dr. Clark. Actually, to start with, it’s mostly about me. I’m fond of saying lately that I’m in a very ‘me’ focused few years of my life. Here’s why.

For 20 plus years I have been a project management and leadership consultant. I have traveled the world and done training and consulting for hundreds of organizations and thousands of people. The energy output required for this kind of life was significant but for me it was fueled by a passion for what I did for a living and the people I got to work with.

In addition to that, I was a weekend outdoor enthusiast, passionate about kayaking, photography and camping.

Two years ago it all changed. It started with a quickly growing sleep disorder and overwhelming levels of fatigue. I went to my doctor (of 10 plus years) and asked him to please run some lab work and see if anything was out of whack. I had just returned from a vacation and kayaking trip to Oregon and was concerned about Lime disease or something of that nature.

He glanced at the lab results and said nothing looked wrong. He said I was feeling the results of stress (it had been a challenging business year) and go rest. He gave me a prescription for an anti-depressant and a sleeping pill (one that contributes to depression).

Over the next few months the fatigue, physical pain (random, changing and very confusing) and the mental confusion, was not only terribly frightening, but for the first time in my life I was not able to work. I had trouble putting together sentences correctly. All I wanted to do was sleep. The pain and physical fatigue made it almost impossible to walk the dogs and go to the mailbox. I knew something was seriously wrong but also thought maybe the stress of my lifestyle had just triggered something and I was just going crazy.

Worse yet - several key people in my life started to think I had just crashed and burned from my pace of life and stress. A few thought I was just ‘loosing it’ and I needed to ‘get over it.’ I can’t describe the feelings of fear, loneliness, and anger.

Someone casually mentioned Fibromyalgia. At the time I didn’t know how to pronounce it correctly or spell it, but I went to the computer and within hours learned more about it than most people will ever know. It was like reading my life story. Suddenly, as I read about the pain points ( I had all 18 and a few to spare) and the ‘Fibro fog’ (there’s a name for it!) I felt like the mystery of my current life had an answer.

I wont tell you what my doctor (of ten plus years) said when I took some of the information into his office to share it with him. His judgement about patients learning about medical information from the web was less than flattering. I walked out of his office knowing I needed a new doctor. And a new kind of doctor. Someone who understood Fibromyalgia.

The search was challenging and I have to say it was more miracle than research on my part, but I found Dr. Clark. Her lab work immediately identified several key elements that were dangerously out of balance, dealing with cortisol and an almost non-functioning adrenal system. She set about getting me on a system of supplements to bring about balance. She tested and taught me which foods were probably my offenders, and most importantly, provided expert knowledge and amazing morale support. She explained that this was sometimes a long, slow road of discovery, but that I would get better.

I can not adequately describe how her knowledge and support effected my life, but I can explain that for the first time I felt understood and I knew I had help. The right help. When I would go in to see her she would have my lab results spread across her desk and tell me she had been studying them. Then she would revise the supplement system until my health was getting better and better. These were nothing like any doctor appointments I had ever experienced.

It’s been a year now. I have changed the direction of my business to focus on consulting I can do from my home office. Being able to control my environment, stress, food and rest has been critical for my success. I’ve had to adjust my attitude and vision for my life and incorporate that SELF-CARE IS JOB ONE. It has resulted also in changing some relationships in my life. Remaining in relationship environments that did not provide a healing environment for me was no longer an option I was willing to tolerate.

Feeling better is NOT a linear process like recovering from many health disorders, but Dr. Clark had been with me every step of the way to gain info from the good days and the challenging days.

We talked about my expectations when I was impatient and wondered if I would ever get back to ‘normal.’ The revelation Dr. Clark helped me understand has been critical to my healing process, physically and mentally. My previous notion of ‘normal’ is what got me here in the first place. The constant push and driving my body to unreasonable limits had contributed to my crash. Fibromyalgia is more a result than a cause. Now my life is focused on building a new definition and a new standard of what is healthy, now and for the future. It’s a new and different definition of ‘normal.’

Like I said, I’m learning to get comfortable with that it’s about me right now. But I never could have come to this place of peace, healing and life changes, without Dr. Clark by my side. She is the most gifted, talented and devoted doctors I have ever met. I would not have come through this without her."
