NATUREMED CLINIC
PREVENTIVE CARDIOLOGY
Hi I'm Dr. Steve Parcell, ND and I hope this page helps you understand how we can work together to help you avoid a heart attack. Heart attacks are the number one cause of death for Americans.
The primary problem is something called coronary artery disease (CAD) or atherosclerosis. I will help you stabilize this disease process and address the underlying causes of the disease process itself.
Typical patients are men over 40 who are concerned about thier risk of heart disease. Many of my patients are active or athletic. Heart disease is often asymptomatic (no symptoms) until your first heart attack. This is why early screening is so important. There are many ways to assess your risk and I leave no stone unturned.
What you might expect form a cardiology visit with me:
- Extensive blood tests including cholesterol particle size and number (lipoprotein analysis)
- Blood viscosity testing
- Heart scans to look for calcified plaque
- Carotid artery studies (intimal tickness, ultrasound)
- Echocardiogram
- Family history
- Physical exam
- Very close cholesterol monitoring and blood pressure control
Coronary calcification/ elevated calcium score
As the heart scan becomes more mainstream many of you are finding alarming or at least troubling results from your scan. Calcified plaque is what this heart scan picks up. Calcified plaque is old, mature plaque. The problem is that it grows exponentially (like compounding interest) on a credit card. Average growth rates are approximately 22 to 43% a year and as much as 150% with very active disease.
I will explain how we can stop or reverse the plaque. This is done through tight control and modification of all your risk factors, diet and specific nutritional supplements not typically available over the counter. Nutritional supplementation, chelation, medications, diet, and lifestyle is used to modify the disease process.
Intravenous administration of an amino acid called disodium EDTA (with cofactors) can help lower your plaque score. This is called chelation therapy and is now being studied by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In my experience, if done correctly, chelation works.
Are you at increased risk of an early death by heart disease? If you have one or more of these risk factors you should get evaluated ASAP:
- Hypertension or prehypertension blood pressure above 120/80
- High LDL cholesterol (LDL over 100)
- Low HDL (less than 40)
- Your mom, dad or grandparents had heart disease or died prematurely from it
- You smoke or used to smoke
- You are overweight
- You have diabetes
- You are a stressed out overachiever or depressed
- You do not exercise
- You are male over 40 or female over 50
Please don't let a heart attack be your first symptom. Let me help you reverse your plaque. Call today to schedule an appointment.
